Cute Ferrets Led Me to start an Online Business!

If you had told me a couple of years ago that I could start an online business around my favorite animals, I wouldn’t have believed you. That is, until I got the opportunity to create a space solely dedicated to my favorite thing in the whole world: looking after cute ferrets.

How I made the most out of a long-time passion

I’ve always loved ferrets, ever since I was child; they are beautiful, playful and dynamic beings that thrive in the wilderness, but can also be wonderful pets. As domestic animals, ferrets need a series of special cares and equipment, much different to those of a cat or a dog, but when looked after properly, these amazing creatures can bring joy and fun to any household.

Being unbelievably cute animals, it’s no wonder that, as a ferret breeder, I get tons of questions all the time about how to acquire one, as well as how to look after them, what they like to eat, and how to give them the best care possible.

The idea to create a website business around my favorite animals came from wanting to open an online space with all the information I’ve gathered through the years to fully prepare anyone on the task of properly taking care of a pet ferret. I found myself with quite some knowledge to share, so with all the opportunities presented by the internet, I decided to try my hand at creating a website where I condensate and organize everything I know about these cute little animals.

Starting a website from Zero

Turning something I had been doing for years into an online business had its difficult parts. Creating a website from scratch and designing an entire plan to make everything work took its time and effort, but working with something I’m so familiar with definitely gave me a significant jumpstart when it came to directing the site.

Slowly, an empty webpage began taking form, being filled with all sorts of ferret facts, from the best food to the proper cages, and I started adding extra categories as well, like curiosity articles and even delivering the opportunity for contact from other ferret enthusiasts.

One thing that has definitely made all the work worth it has been the amazing community that was born out of users from all over the world coming together to share our experiences, our advice, and our help to any beginner looking to get a cute ferret as a pet. This sense of companionship is something that I didn’t see coming, but that has become one of the most rewarding parts of this venture.

Balancing my day job with my new project

Starting this only business has meant a lot to me. Not only has it been an opportunity to share everything I know with fellow ferret-lovers, but it has also been a huge growing process where I’ve learned to balance my day job with my virtual one.

Breeding ferrets has been a long-time activity of mine, so I couldn’t replace it with a new project from one day to another. What I did to continue managing both worlds was to get as much help as I could in both areas, and understanding that I needed to take my time and be patient in order to not end up neglecting either of my passions.

How working online changed me for the better

This new online project has given a new focus to my old ways, and at the same time has allowed to keep doing and pursuing what I love, which is to take care of ferrets and teach others how to do it as well. I’ve added a new level of productivity to my job that keeps me busy and on top of my game, which has expanded my horizons and given me new ideas to keep moving forward.

It’s clear that working with ferrets has been my calling since I was kid, so it’s only natural that my new ventures keep taking me on this road. Websites, blogs and social media are a whole new field that allows anyone to make profit out of their passion, so if you have something you love doing, now is the time to take it to the next level!
